Home > Community Voices > The Fight for KDNA II Community Announcement #2: - The Fight for KDNA IIRadio KDNA continues to be held hostage by the Director Maria Fernandez and Jorge Lobos. Mr. Lobos continues to be negligent and irresponsible in his role as President of the NCEC/KDNA Board of Directors. After the month-long strike, the staff of Radio KDNA agreed to return to work because of the agreement reached between the Board of Directors and the Union that the Board would accept arbitration to determine if the fired employees were unjustly terminated, would negotiate a union contract with the Teamsters representing the KDNA employees and the Director would cease harassing the staff. None of this has happened and the situation at the station continues to worsen. The harassment and the severe injustice against the employees that went on strike continues. Why? Why was Saida Rodriguez, the program coordinator, suspended? Why? Due to a restraining order from an employee hired by Fernandez. The case went to court and in less than 13 minutes the judge decided in Saida’s favor. In vengeance, Fernandez denying knowledge about the situation suspended Saida without pay, and without hope of returning to her job. Yet, Fernandez was in court supporting the accuser. Why? On Friday, July 10, Fernandez and the Board of Directors held a “benediction” in the new center where Jorge Lobos himself came out and disrespectfully confronted the community trying to intimidate them to leave Radio Cadena’s building. This is why we say Maria Fernandez has taken the radio hostage. What do they fear? Where is the voice of the farm worker? Why do they deny our right to speak? What are their intentions for the radio? We plead with you to call, contact Maria Fernandez and Jorge Lobos and ask them these questions. (509) 854-2222 or P.O. Box 800, Granger, WA 98932.
